Periodically people give Lizzy extra food, and I'd like to address that. Lizzy is roughly 14 y.o., she's lived at the garden her whole life. I've been feeding her for 9 years and have changed up her food to better meet her nutritional demands. For the last 5 years we have fed her Taste of the Wild which is a very high quality dry food. It led to a noticeable improvement in the quality of her coat. The food she is being given is generally a soft food of lower quality. This is problematic for a number of reasons:
1) she wolfs down soft food, and sometimes throws it up because she eats it so fast. I do sometimes feed her Tiki Cat or TJs soft food but I monitor how fast she eats it -- I take the can away periodically to make sure she is digesting it.
2) generally the cans I see are Friskies or Fancy Feast, which are junk food, the list of ingredients is long and highly inorganic, she needs higher quality food, particularly at her age.
3) when there is extra food around it's not that she eats more and gets bigger, she is a svelte cat, extra food attracts rats to the garden which is bad for Lizzy and bad for our crops.
If you'd like to help she really likes fresh water, the fresher the better, so changing her water is always good. Pet her (though on her own terms, she doesn't like to be picked up/held). Occasional treats like Greenies are good.
I go to the garden every morning to feed her, but am open to someone taking a particular day of the week to feed her, send me an email.
